What Are High-VG E-Liquids?

E-liquids, in general, contain only a few key ingredients, one of the many reasons that vaping is safer and less harmful than smoking. In most e-liquids, there will be flavourings, nicotine, VG (which stands for vegetable glycerin), and PG (which stands for propylene glycol). VG and PG are two very common substances that appear in plenty of different household items, from medicines, to foods, to hygiene products and more.

Which concentration of e-liquid you choose is entirely down to personal preference, as both PG and VG are proven to be completely safe to ingest. Under the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) regulations, manufacturers can’t sell e-liquid containing nicotine in anything larger than 10ml bottles. For reference, 10ml of e-liquid would last someone who had been smoking 15 traditional tobacco cigarettes a day approximately one week (though this can vary massively from person to person).

Having to replace your e-liquid every week isn’t just inconvenient, it can get very expensive too, not to mention increasing the amount of plastic waste we throw away. As shortfill liquids don’t actually contain any nicotine as sold, they can be produced in 40ml, 50ml or even larger containers. Currently, UK and European manufacturers can’t sell e-liquids with a nicotine concentration of over 20mg/ml, or 2% in a 10ml bottle in the region.

In the US, nicotine e-liquids can be sold in much higher concentrations - sometimes up to 6% concentration, so this isn’t a concern for USA vapers. With shortfill e-liquids, UK and European customers can mix their e-liquids to create a higher nicotine concentration than pre-mixed liquids can offer.
