How to Stick to Your Vaping Resolutions After January

23rd Jan 2018

MotivationIf you’re reading this blog and the title spoke to you then you may be one of the many people who decided to make the switch to vaping this year. First thing’s first, congratulations on making the switch and we hope you’ve enjoyed the experience so far!

Most of us start January feeling inspired and motivated to make positive changes for the year ahead. The new year is a blank slate, the first page of a 365 day story and we all want to make it a good one. So we set resolutions: to switch to vaping, to eat a healthier diet, to spend more time with family and friends. When motivation is high and we’re surrounded by other people on self-improvement journeys it’s much simpler to stay on track and stick to these new healthy habits. However, as the days go on and we settle back into our routines, the magic of a new year can begin to fade the daily grind can chip away at our motivation.

It’s around this time of year when many of us back down on our new year’s resolutions and fall back into unhealthy habits, so we want to take today’s blog post to help inject some much-needed motivation back into proceedings and inspire you to keep doing what you’re doing, even when you feel like giving up.

As we mentioned in our previous post about motivation, these tips can be applied to any type of resolution but we’re going to keep the focus on vaping.

Take it slow

We live in a world of instant gratification and it’s tempting to want results immediately but we urge you to slow down and enjoy the process. You might not be able to switch completely to vaping overnight and that’s okay. You might be on a higher nicotine strength than you initially wanted: guess what? That’s also okay.

What you’re doing is a tricky thing and it does take determination and willpower. Don’t expect to move mountains overnight. Take your time, revel in the progress you’ve made so far and keep making progress every day. What’s that they say about slow and steady winning the race?

Examine your old habits

If your old habits are calling your name then stop and take some time out to examine your old habits and determine what it is that you truly miss. Is it the familiarity of holding a cigarette? If so, you may want to try a cigalike device that replicates the feeling. Are you not getting that throat hit that used to satisfy you? Try experimenting with e-liquid types until you find one with a stronger hit. Perhaps you’re feeling cravings begin to creep up on you faster than usual. In that case, you might have reduced your nicotine strength too quickly. Try using one level higher and see if it helps.

Ask for support

If you’re struggling, ask for help. It doesn’t diminish your achievements or make you less than. Everybody who’s made a positive change in their life has struggled at one point or another (or at multiple points!) and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with saying ‘hey, I’m finding this tough, can I talk to you about it?’.

If you aren’t sure who to turn to in your personal life or want to talk to another vaper who ‘gets it’ then we recommend talking to members of the vaping community online. They’re a friendly bunch and every single one of them was in your position once. As well as on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, there are also plenty of vaping forums where you can get support from like-minded vapers.

Plus, don’t forget about us! We’re always on hand to be your own personal cheerleaders if you need an extra boost of motivation or support. You can always reach us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

One slip doesn’t mean the end

We want to finish on a point that we can’t stress enough. If you slip up once or twice (or even ten times), it doesn’t mean that all of your progress is lost.

Remember this: if you take ten steps and take one back, you’re still nine steps ahead of where you were when you started.

Don’t let one lapse make you feel as though you need to revert back to your previous habit. You’ve still taken great steps to get to where you want to be and your motivation will come and go. It’s choosing to keep taking these steps when your motivation is lacking that will help you truly make a change and achieve your goals.
