Aspire One Up R1 Disposable Vape Review

8th Aug 2024

Two Aspire One Up R1 Disposable Vape Kits of Different Colours

The vape kit market is shifting rapidly during 2024 as we witness some intriguing changes and announcements. We have gone from simple first-generation e-cigarettes more than a decade ago - followed by extremely advanced vape mods, to single-use disposables surging into the public view as the go-to device. Of the 300 million vapes sold in the UK last year, disposables make up a large portion of this sector.

Despite their convenience, the new UK Labour government are weighing up whether to ban disposable vapes entirely; to protect underage vaping and the environment. What this could mean is a potentially huge gap for a crossover device like a refillable disposable pod kit, which are just as user-friendly but more sustainable and long-lasting for customers.

A prime example that's a mixture of the two and the purpose of today’s review is the Aspire One Up R1 vape kit, a nifty little rechargeable and refillable disposable device, featuring fixed 0.8 Ohm coils. Let's deep dive into its key selling points and whether it's the right vape kit for you.

How Does the One Up R1 Compare to the Others in the Aspire Disposable Series?

What Aspire aim to do is not just continue its tradition of offering user-friendly pod kits for beginners but also grab a large portion of the disposable vape market that will be seeking an alternative.

This is Aspire’s second type of disposable device, which is a definitive upgrade on single-use disposables. Vapers achieve greater longevity with the One Up R1 because you can recharge the 650mAh battery, which is a relatively generous size.

Because the coil is fixed and the pod is non-replaceable, this means multiple refills - a certain added bonus. Essentially, you can fill the One Up R1 a few times via the silicone side fill stopper, until the fixed coil life diminishes inside the pod. Then you throw the whole device and swap for another. Therefore, you do not need to worry about coil changes, which saves time and effort.

How to Use the Aspire One Up R1 Vape Kit: Simple Setup Guide

It’s very simple to use the Aspire One Up R1 device because it’s designed with beginners in mind. As you can see from the display, there is no menu to navigate or features to change. There is not even an adjustable airflow!

Here are a few straightforward instructions to get started:

  1. To charge the device, the USB port is located at the bottom of the device.
  2. To refill, pop open the silicone tab to add your e-liquid.
  3. To activate the device, inhale via the mouthpiece.

How Does it Vape?

For the price point, and considering its size and effectiveness, you get fantastic value with the One Up R1. The airflow is plenty for a mouth-to-lung or restrictive direct lung vape. As it states on the box, you can refill up to 8 times, which is fantastic value for under £10 without needing to buy any coils!

The flavour is also perfect with your chosen freebase nicotine (best vaped with high PG e-liquids) or nic salts, depending on preference. So it should easily last a few days up to a week based on how much you use the device. Compared to a single-use disposable, you can get a more reliable and long-lasting device like the One Up R1 with no knowledge of vaping needed. It’s essentially a ‘one up’ on disposables.

So you don’t need to buy as often as you would if purely using disposable vapes. Plus, it's possible to alternate between a variety of e-liquid flavours whenever you like.

Appearance and Build Quality Overview

This device is effortlessly stylish and foolproof, with a stunning design that’s ergonomic to hold and feels great in the hand while vaping. The Aspire One Up R1 is available in a range of impressive colour schemes, which includes orange, fuchsia, white and a bold aqua blue. Aspire One Up R1 With Mesh Coils

Each package states that the product can be recharged but doesn’t come with type-c charging, which may be frustrating for some vapers, but the majority of vapers should have hold of a charger anyway.

It can store up to 2ml of e-liquid as the industry standard maximum capacity. At the same time, there is a 650mAh battery, which is more than enough for mouth-to-lung vaping throughout the day, only needing to charge in the evening.

The pod shows the e-liquid levels, but not the clearest compared to other pod kits we have seen in the past.

With a thin curved mouthpiece, it provides an excellent tight restrictive vape to mirror the inhalation and draw of a cigarette.

Overall, Aspire has not let its fans down and instead provides an excellent replacement for disposables that will save you more money long term than to keep buying single-use vapes. The build quality is excellent as we have come to expect from the likes of Aspire, who gear most of their devices towards beginner and intermediate vapers.

What are the Advantages of the Aspire One Up R1?

  • It’s a disposable vape with a rechargeable battery!
  • Integrated fixed mesh coil offers a great loose MTL draw
  • Fantastic cost-effective device which offers more refills than a typical disposable and you can pick your favourite e-liquids with greater choice
  • Simple plug-and-play refill method
  • No fuss device with no features or functions to change – ideal for beginners!

Any Disadvantages with This Compact Disposable?

  • Only one coil type means you only have one type of draw
  • Because it’s a 0.8 MTL mesh coil, this therefore means small cloud production with no adjustable airflow
  • It doesn’t offer the longevity of a non-disposable pod kit, but the One Up R1 does offer that barrier between disposables and pod kits with additional refills

Verdict

The Aspire One Up R1 is a great little device for vaping on the go. While out and about vaping, if you’re after a pocket-friendly device that can be refilled and recharged, but you do not want the fuss of changing coils or thinking too hard about what adjustments to make, it’s the perfect little affordable vape kit.

But despite its advantages, the One Up R1 is still a disposable vape kit. The battery will last but unfortunately, the built-in pod will not. After roughly eight refills, you will need to replace it with a brand-new kit.

However, at such an affordable price and considering the type of vape kits Aspire is recognised for, this is a great idea from Aspire to offer an alternative to disposable vapes with many of its best qualities but still feeling familiar to the untapped and active disposable vape market.
